Catalyst 1900 and Catalyst 2820 Series

Cisco Systems' Catalyst® 1900 and 2820 series switches, available in Standard and Enterprise Editions, provide industry-leading performance and Cisco end-to-end network integration at an exceptionally affordable price. Enterprise Edition software enables these switches to deliver unmatched network configuration flexibility and scalability through embedded CiscoTM technologies, delivering comprehensive management and security, bandwidth optimization, networked multimedia, and virtual LAN (VLAN) support.

Enterprise Edition software is pre-installed in Enterprise Edition switches, and available as an optional Upgrade Kit for Standard Edition switches.

Standard Edition

Cisco Catalyst 1900 and 2820 series Standard Edition Ethernet switches combine industry-leading performance and configuration flexibility at a very attractive price per port.

Catalyst 1900 switches offer 12 or 24 10BaseT ports in a fixed configuration. All models offer two 100BaseT uplinks: either both UTP, or a combination of fiber-optic cable and UTP. CollisionFree full-duplex operation on both the 10BaseT and 100BaseT ports eliminates collisions and doubles available bandwidth.

At an aggressive price per port, modular Catalyst 2820 series Standard Edition switches are the ideal solution for Ethernet workgroups and individual users who need increased performance and 100BaseT, FDDI, or ATM connectivity to servers and network backbones. The Catalyst 2820 has 24 switched 10BaseT ports and two high-speed expansion slots. Field-installable modules provide configuration, wiring, and backbone flexibility with a choice of 100BaseT, FDDI, and ATM modules available that support Category 5 or fiber-optic cabling. Both the 1900 and 2820 series switches provide an additional switched AUI port.

Standard Edition switches provide unmatched flexibility and scalability. Adding Enterprise Edition software allows the switches to scale as the network grows. The switches can be upgraded to the Enterprise Edition with the Enterprise Edition Upgrade Kit.

Enterprise Edition

Enterprise Edition software offers unmatched network flexibility and scalability for Catalyst 1900 and 2820 series switches through Cisco IOS technologies, delivering comprehensive management and security, bandwidth optimization, networked multimedia and virtual LAN (VLAN) support.

Enterprise Edition software includes features such as bandwidth aggregation on Fast Ethernet ports to provide up to 400 Mbps of bandwidth between switches, to routers, and individual servers. End-to-end dynamic VLANs provide simplified network-wide adds, moves, and changes, firewall protection, and broadcast control. Finally, comprehensive management and simplified troubleshooting are available on a per-port and per-switch basis through Remote Monitoring (RMON), Telnet, and out-of-band management console support.

Refer to the accompanying data sheet for a detailed list of features.

Service and Support

All Catalyst 1900 and 2820 series switches come with a one year limited return to factory warranty that can be extended for a total of three years. Support ranges from help desk assistance to proactive, onsite consultation. All support contracts include major Cisco IOS software updates, full access rights to Cisco Connection Online, and 24-hour-a-day technical assistance. Applications

Backbone for Smaller Networks

A Catalyst 1900 or 2820 series Standard Edition switch is an effective backbone in a small/medium business network, connecting individual desktops and 10BaseT hubs to servers and other network resources with high-speed connections.

Enterprise Edition Workgroup Switching

Catalyst 1900 or 2820 Enterprise Edition switches provide dedicated 10Mbps to desktops and 10BaseT hubs, connecting users and workgroups to 100BaseT, ATM, or FDDI networks, and supports port-based ISL or ATM VLANs across the network to other Cisco switches and routers.
