connections and loop-free networks simplifies network configuration
and improves fault tolerance
- Up to 320 Mbps aggregate forwarding bandwidth (with FastMate modules
installed) for maximum performance
- Shared memory architecture with 3 megabyte packet buffer
to virtually eliminate packet loss and maximize throughput
- Unique diagnostic mode for monitoring the traffic on a single port, a
group of ports, or the entire switch, from a single network analyzer or RMON
probe
- Telnet, SNMP, and SMT support for comprehensive in-band manageability and
a menu based management console for in-depth and out of band manageability
- Port-configurable virtual LANs (VLANs) for broadcast traffic control,
firewall protection and simplifies adds, moves and changes

and server capacity in multimedia LAN applications
- Secure addressing options give administrative control over network
access for security-sensitive applications
GrandJunction' FastSwitch 2800 is the next generation Ethernet switch
providing superior configuration and backbone flexibility. With 25 switched
Ethernet ports for individual workstations and existing 1OBase-T hubs, and two
high-speed expansion slots, the FastSwitch 2800 delivers the benefits of Ethernet
switching to 10OBase -T, FDDI and future ATM networks.
PERFORMANCE
The FastSwitch 2800 uses Grand-designed ASICs and a I gigabit per second
internal bus to deliver an aggregate forwarding bandwidth of up to 320 Mbps
(with FastMate modules installed). A shared memory architecture with 3 MIB
packet buffer virtually eliminates packet loss and maximizes performance,
especially for packet windowing protocols. CollisionFree full-duplex operation
with the FastMate 10OBase-T modules provides simultaneous data transmission
in both directions, providing up to 200 Mbps bandwidth for servers and
switch-to-switch connections, and distances of up to two kilometers (km)
between devices using fiber cabling.
CONFIGURATION FLEXIBILITY
The FastSwitch 2800's support for multiple MAC addresses gives users the
flexibility to connect a single workstation or 1OBase-T hub to each port,
easing the migration path from today's shared-media LANs to next-generation
private Ethernet networks. In addition, the FastSwitch 2800 has two high-
speed expansion slots for configuration and backbone flexibility. For example,
one port can be used for a backbone uplink, and the other for a local server,
redundant backbone connection, network analyzer or RMON probe, or for
connecting to other FastSwitches. With the FastMate modules, the FastSwitch
supports multiple high-speed technologies including switched and shared
10OBase-T, FDDI and in the future ATM; and UTP and fiber media types.
