Intel Express 100BASE-TX Fast Ethernet Stackable Hubs deliver safe, scalable industry-
standard 100 megabits-per-second (Mbps) connectivity for today's increasingly powerful
PCs, servers and workgroups, and other demanding network environments.
The hubs combine the high-performance of modular hubs with the low-cost and
flexibility of stackable hubs. The Intel Express stackable hubs provide a full 100Mbps
throughput, and when combined with 10/100 adapters such as the Intel EtherExpress-
PRO/100 Adapter, they dramatically reduce network bottlenecks and increase response
times tenfold over traditional 1OMbps Ethernet networks.
Stackable and manageable
The Intel Express stackable hubs
are versatile and flexible, satisfying the needs of everything from small,
unmanaged LANS to large, feature-rich
managed networks. Single hubs provide a high-performance, low-cost solution
for supporting up to 12 users. As demand grows, five additional hubs can be added to the stack,
providing 72 users with Fast Ethernet performance.
The addition of a network management module provides full Simple Network Management
Protocol (SNMP) management capabilities supported by Bay Networks'EZ-LAN (Optivity*
for Workgroups) family of network management applications. Up to six hubs can be stacked to
act as a single managed unit, providing a scalable solution that enables networks to grow incre-
mentally for a modest investment. Because the Intel Express hub is a shared media device, it
can be managed by hundreds of today's popular management and trouble-shooting applications.
100BASE-T hub connectivity and modularity
The Intel Express Stackable Hub combines scalabihty, flexibility and affordability, offering
a low-cost, high-performance solution for a variety of applications.
The 100BASE-T hubs are preconfigured with 12 RJ-45 modular receptacles supporting
the IEEE 802.3u 100BASE-TX specification over two-pair Category 5 unshielded twisted
pair (UTP) cabling. The hubs also include built-in expansion and media adapter slots that
support a variety of network management and 100BASE-T media adapter modules.
Maximum reliability
100BASE-T hubs are designed to provide maximum reliability, ensuring the network
always remains operational even under the most demanding conditions.
In addition, redundant network management modules can be installed in a 100BASE-T
hub stack, providing an emergency management backup in the event of a primary network
management module failure.
LED display
Each 100BASE-T hub features a front-panel LED matrix display to report hub, expansion
slot, media adapter and network status at a glance. The display also provides information about
individual port connectivity, collisions, link and partition status. An easy to read utilization LED
display is also provided to report utffization levels for that hub's particular stack or collision domain.
Standards-based Fast Ethernet
A safe, proven, reliable technology, Fast Ethernet delivers the bandwidth required to alleviate
the congestion that is hampering traditional 1OMbps Ethernet networks today. Approved by the
EEEE as 802.3 Ethernet standard and supported by more than 75 networkingvendors, 100BASE-T
represents the next logical step for organizations seeking to improve the performance of their
existing networks.
