Overview
The NBase NH2007 MegaSwitch is a
Fast Ethernet store-and-forward switch
featuring five 100Base-TX ports or five
100Base-FX ports and two optional high
speed 100Base-TX/FX expansion ports.
Each 10OMbps RJ-45 port supports a
Fast Ethernet segment, with up to 2048
nodes with near zero latency. The two
additional slots can be used for 10OBase-
TX/FX optional plug-in modules for
scalability and distance extension. The
NH2007/FO drives both multimode and
singlemode fiber to 2km and 10km,
respectively.

Description
The NH2007 increases the bandwidth of
Fast Ethernet installations by dividing the
network into segments and insulating each
from the others' local traffic. In addition, it
enables the extension of Fast Ethernet
LANs to greater distances. The Switch's
parallel store-and-forward architecture
with direct source port-to-destination port
transfer eliminates delays in data transfer.
ts proprietary hardware enables the
NH2007 to handle wire speed reception,
including Broadcast and Multicast frames
destined to more than one output port,
through a filtering and for-warding rate of
500,000 packets per second.
NBase Selective Flow Control prevents
lost packets due to buffer overload, a critical
feature for sliding windows NOSs such
as TCP/IP and Novell 4.2.
Powerful custom filtering provides Virtual
LAN capabilities (confined within the
switch). The Switch supports Virtual
Broadcast domains, Virtual Security
domains and custom filters based on desti-
nation MAC addresses.
Complete runt and CRC filtering provides
greater reliability, while port and management
LEDs facilitate installation, maintenance and diagnostics.
The MegaSwitch 100 is fully managed
through NBase's SNMP-based NMS,
MegaVision; however, it also supports any
standard SNMP-based Network
Management System.
Application
Typical network applications for the
NH2007 would include:
- Interlinking Fast Ethernet hubs
- Interlinking IO/ I 00 Workgroup Switches (NBase NH208/NH215)
- Creating a Fast Ethernet backbone
- Extending network distance
- Driving high bandwidth application servers
Each port on the NH2007 can be con-
figured for Full Duplex operation for
supporting high-end workstations.
Maximum cable length from the Fast
Ethernet port to a workstation/hub is
100m over 100Base-TX and 400m over
10OBase-FX. Full Duplex eliminates
this distance limitation, enabling trans-
mission distances exceeding lOOkm
over singlemode fiber optic cable. With
the fiber optic Fast Ethernet plug-in
modules, transmission distances of up
to lOOkm are achievable in single-
mode fiber optics.
