The JAYCOR FCI-1062 Fibre Channel adapter brings the speed and flexibility of Fibre Channel communications to personal computers and workstations using the Peripheral Component Interconnect (PCI) local bus Rev. 2. 1. The FCI- 1062 is a high-reliability, low-cost Fibre Channel host bus adapter for the PCI Bus that complies with the ANSI FC-PH Rev. 4.3 Fibre Channel standard. It can be used to connect PCI Bus devices to Fibre Channel devices operating at a Fibre Channel bandwidth of 1062 MBaud. The FCI- 1062 can support PCI Bus data transfer at rates up to 110 MBytes/s.

The architecture of the FCI- 1062 is flexible and can be used to connect a PCI Bus device to several different types of Fibre Channel fabrics. Supported fabrics include Point-to-Point, Switched and Arbitrated Loop. Several connection topologies are shown in the figure on the back. Support for the Arbitrated Loop fabric topology is particularly important. Arbitrated Loop operating at 1062 Mbaud is a low-cost alternative, for a moderate number of nodes, to using a switched fabric at lower bandwidth. The adapter supports all classes of Fibre Channel service (Class 1, Class 2, Class 3 and Intermix). Additionally, the adapter provides hardware assist to increase the performance of Upper Level Protocols such as TCP/IP and SCSI.

The FCI-1062 comes with a complete set of diagnostics. The diagnostics perform a complete test of all intemal board functions and can perform a loopback test to verify end-to-end performance of the adapter. If more than one adapter is present, the diagnostics can also be used to verify data transfer from one platform to another.

The FCI-1062 is easy to install and occupies a single PCI slot. It consumes 9.6 watts and does not require special cooling support. Optical connections are easy to attach and are keyed to ensure proper polarity. The adapter also provides open fiber control to simplify system setup and integration.
