CiscoPro: Products and Solutions

In an effort to provide small and medium size businesses with the same internetworking capabilities available to large corporations, Cisco Systems has introduced the CiscoPro product Line. Basically, it is intended to provide users access to popular business applications such as Internet access, telecommuting, distributed databases and high-speed data transfers.

The CiscoPro products fall into two categories: workgroup and access solutions. Workgroup solutions include fixed-configuration and stackable switching solutions for departmental workgroups; access solutions include standard internetworking technology packaged for branch office and professional office environments. Network management for CiscoPro products is provided by CiscoVision software, a complete PC-based network management solution under Windows for configuring, monitoring and managing routers and switches.

CiscoPro Workgroup Solutions

With the acquisition of two of the major players in the switching arena, Kalpana and Grand Junction, CiscoPro workgroup products are divided into two main categories.

The EtherSwitch 10/100, 1200, and 1400 have 25 switched Ethernet ports with varying higher speed options.

EtherSwitch 10/100

This unit features 25 switched dedicated 10Mbps Ethernet ports for high volume users, and two 100Base-TX high speed connections for server and backbone connections.

EtherSwitch 1200

This unit also supports 25 switched 10Mbps Ethernet ports and two 10Base-TX ports. However, the 25 switched ports are not limited to 1 MAC address, so hubs and other connection devices can be attached.

EtherSwitch 1400

The most flexible of the Grand Junction switches, the EtherSwitch 1400 supports 25 switched, multi-MAC address 10Mbps Ethernet ports. However, instead of two Fast Ethernet ports, the 1400 has two High Speed expansion ports which can support various configurations.

There are modules for:

EtherSwitch 500

The CPW500 features five switched 10Mbps ports and is primarily designed to give small office environments a boost to their network performance.

EtherSwitch 2115

The CPW2115 has a modular chassis that accommodates any combination of three 5-port, hot-swappable expansion cards that provide 10Base-T, 10Base2, and 10Base-FL media support.
