With its high port density, and its management and filtering capa bilities, SMC's TigerSwitch XFE can easily meet the requirements of today's growing Ethernet workgroups. An ideal companion to SMC's SwitchReady family of TigerStack hubs, this 17-port, rack mountable switch provides a full 10 Mbps of bandwidth to each of its sixteen 10BASE-T ports and 100 Mbps to its 100BASE-TX port. Its 260 Mbps of aggregate bandwidth can be allocated across the work- groups and to servers and power users as required.

This full-featured segment switch employs a buffered "store-and- forward" architecture that performs error checking to prevent bad packets from being propagated throughout the network. Its non- blocking design allows simultaneous wire-speed transport of multiple packets at consistently low latency. The switch also supports Spanning Tree Protocol, which provides a measure of fault tolerance by allowing secondary network paths to be created.

An SNMP agent is included, so SMC's EliteView and other SNMP-based management applications can collect and display status and performance information about the switch, and perform needed configuration and control functions. Network management can also be performed in-band using the popular TCP/IP application, Telnet, and out-of-band via a serial console port.
